What people say about us
Two friends & I stayed at the Playa Negra house in early December for 5 days, and I wish we had extended our stay by a couple more. Our group included both beginner & experienced surfers, yet we all had no problem finding ideal conditions for our individual experience levels thanks to the wide variety of surf spots and great instructors. Steve & Irina are the perfect hosts – going out of their way to ensure every aspect of the stay is fun & memorable. Our trip would not have been the same without their knowledge of the area – after surfing the best spots in the morning, Steve led us on what was essentially a ‘best-kept-secret’ tour of the area – including incredible restaurants and bars that we would never have found on our own. Thanks to Steve & Irina we were able to fit what felt like five weeks worth of activities into five days at the house. The house & location are idyllic, but it’s Steve & Irina that make Real Surf Trips a must.
Awesome crew and staff at Real Surf Trips, made surfing and board availability very easy and accessible for beginner level and experienced surfers. Beach access is only steps away. Meals provided were super nutritious and delicious, morning noon and night. Fun people and overall made my visit to Los Pargos very enjoyable with a variety or activities on offer including waterfall tours and day trips to other great beaches. Evening with live music and local friends made this location feel like a second home. I would defiantly plan a trip back 🙂
I’ve stayed with RST in Playa Negra every July for the past 4 years and I’ve never once been disappointed. Surfing is main purpose of my trip and the RST crew has a great understanding of the local waves, tide and weather conditions, and they always ensure that we’re in the right spot at the right time of day. They are more than happy to have breakfast ready before sun-up, bring meals to the beach, whatever is required to keep us fueled. The service is top-notch and the food is always healthy and delicious. The accomodation is also awesome; A/C, Wi-Fi, hot water, etc. I’ll be back again next year.
My buddy and I – late 20s in age – had it on our bucket list to learn how to surf in March. After scouring the web for options, we fortunately stumbled upon Real Surf Trips Playa Negra. After an amazing week of surf lessons, cervezas, and newfound friendship, we cannot wait to go back!
Bob and Steve have put together a seamless experience for surfers of all experience levels. Starting with a pickup in Liberia from the legendary local Tico, Jeffery, we drove across the Costa Rican countryside learning stories about the country’s culture and history (in perfect English). Steve then greeted us at the door with his first of many “pura vidas!” and gave us a tour of the amazing house. After a walk to the beach (basically in the backyard), we immediately felt at home. Cato and crew had us standing up and riding waves on day one at nearby Playa Avellana. The rest of the trip was more of the same… You will hope it never ends.
BEST SURF CAMP EXPERIENCE!
Four of my best friends and I decided to take a surf trip to Costa Rica. Last year, a mutual friend of ours stayed with the Real Surf Trips and the guy couldn’t stop raving about his experience. To this day, he still talks about his trip and the epic surf. We decided to reach out to the RST guys and ask about a more affordable package. Turns out they just opened a new surf camp location in Playa Avellana that was more cost-effective yet just as accommodating. We were all stoked with the accommodations and pricing considering were all still college students!
We arrived at the house, dropped our bags, unpacked our boards and were surfing within the hour. We were completely blown away! And completely blown away by the house!!! It was unbelievable. Beautiful architecture, quiet, wide open, air conditioned, and private rooms. Oh, and a pool! The views were awesome and we got to see howler monkeys outside our windows pretty much every morning.
We all really liked the way they had the place set up. We could walk to the beach (less than 10 minutes) or take the bikes. Days we didn’t feel like surfing Playa Avellana, Bob had a shuttle pick us up and drive us to the surf spot of our choosing. Seriously, what more could you ask for!?
And we all loved eating at Lola’s! Our routine was a surf session in the morning, then a meal at Lola’s, followed by another surf session in the evening, and then another meal at Lola’s. Their margaritas were insane!
This was definitely one of the most memorable experiences we’ve ever had as friends. We couldn’t have found a better place that was more affordable, had epic surf, and embodied the “Pura Vida” attitude better! We’re already planning another trip next year! Yew! Thanks Bob and the crew. You guys rock.
